From diagnosis to reconstruction 🔬
This patient underwent excision of a cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) on the dorsum of the hand, followed by careful reconstruction of the resulting defect.
The hand is a particularly challenging area for skin cancer surgery. There is limited spare skin, important tendons and joints lie immediately beneath the surface, and reconstruction must take into account not only wound healing and appearance, but also movement and long-term function.
This case demonstrates the journey from:

Every skin cancer is different, and the best reconstruction depends on the size and location of the tumour, the surrounding skin and the functional requirements of the area involved. As a plastic surgeon specialising in complex skin cancer surgery, my aim is always to combine oncological safety with thoughtful reconstruction, removing the cancer effectively while achieving the best possible functional and aesthetic outcome.
